I have been away from the blog for a while. I was really busy enjoying some fine sporting events. I will start off with the Carolina Hurricanes breaking into the win column on Thursday night at home against the Buffalo Sabres. The Canes won 6-3 on a hat trick from Eric Staal, 2 goals from Jeff Skinner, and a tally by Justin Faulk. The Sabres starting goalie (Ryan Miller) was not in the net, so the Sabres fans congratulated us on beating their back-up (Jhonas Enroth). Moving on to Friday night, the game moves up to Buffalo's home ice. The home at home series contract must have had a visiting team plays the back-up goalie clause. The Hurricanes had Dan Ellis between the pipes, giving Cam Ward the night off. Ryan Miller was in net for the Sabres. However, he couldn't stop Alexander Semin from scoring his first goal as a Hurricane, or Jay Harrison from putting one in the back of the net. Jeff Skinner also scored, but it was an empty netter. So I would like to congratulate the Sabres on NOT beating our back-up. Ellis did have a stellar night, with 40 saves on 41 shots, giving up a power play goal to Thomas Vanek 1:56 into the 3rd. The Canes responded by scoring 3 goals of their own in the 3rd. The Canes are now 2-2. Tonight's game features the 3-1 Boston Bruins at the PNC Arena. The Puck drops at 7pm.
